The Wades

My friend Sarah Margaret Wade recently asked me if I would do pictures of her immediately family and grandmother. I really don't do a lot of families, but I enjoyed this one so much I'd like to put it out there: if you want photos of you and your grandparents, let me know and we'll do it. These are the kinds of pictures that only become more precious as time goes by. Maybe years from now when Sarah Margaret is her grandmother's age and she has grandkids of her own and they're looking through old photographs (hopefully they'll be printed, and not just on a screen or some sort of futuristic projection device) she can tell stories about all the fun they had together.

I think all little brothers (I speak as one) hate doing pictures until they get there...then it turns out to be sort of fun. I got another of J Wade that I'll post later. The hat he's wearing belonged to his grandfather.

And the whole family:

Cheers.

Olivia/Glow Worm

Olivia went as a Glow Worm for Halloween. She tried to convince me to go as Teddy Ruxpin but I went as a bear (panda) last year and didn't want to pull a repeat. There were a couple of other people dressed as 80s toys at the Deck Party, but I think Olivia's was the most convincing.

Jill & Mike

I shot the wedding of Jill & Mike on October 17. They got ready at the Redmont, were married at the Botanical Gardens, and partied at the B&A Warehouse. They were really cool and fun to work with, and I'm so glad they asked me to be their photographer! Here are a few from the day.

Weddings!

I recently shot my first two weddings (on my own, not a part of A Bryan Photo. Here are some favorites from Lynielle & Richard's wedding on September 26. They both have great artistic sensibilities (they're architects) and they were so easy to work with. I couldn't have asked for better first clients!

Look, they made the most of the rain!

I was assisted by my friend Bob Miller. Check out this great shot he got:

You can see what I have online for Lynielle and Richard HERE.

I'm working on Jill & Mike's wedding this very moment and will have something to post from that soon.

Cheers.

Irving Penn

Irving Penn died today. He was one of the greatest portrait photographers of the 20th Century.

I saw an exhibit of Penn's work at the Morgan Library when I was living in New York. It really affected me and I've been an admirer of Penn's ever since. I'm sure there will be some good writings to come out about him this week. The NY Times had a good article about his career, but I'm more interested to see an obituary by a photographer or curator- someone who knew him and will miss him in a way I and most others won't be able to.

I heard that before would photograph someone, he would have tea with them and watch them, and then take what he learned into the shoot.

The Times has a slideshow of some of his pictures. It hardly does him justice, but it's something. See it HERE.
